This. Intelligence is linked with reason and understanding. Reason suggests that all the evidence from critical study points towards there not being a divine being that created all the universe. Science had demonstrated time and again that the universe was created in a big bang event. What happened before that and the cause we do not fully understand yet. There's many points to being non-religious and creation isn't the only one.
Not every atheist has 100% certainty or belief in the big bang (or in any other specific thing).

The best thing about the critical thinking that leads most to atheism is also the worst. They all see the world in their own way and that can drive people apart.

The ONE thing religion can have is that it can drive people together and keep them calm and controlled under one umbrella of, most likely, lies. Sadly (or not) that use for religion is being surpassed by the "global society with global rules" we get closer to by the day.

A world where all "modern" religions go the way of the "haha clearly fake fairy tale stuff" (think Norse, Greek, pre-Christian Roman, Egyptian, etc) may be just a few hundred years away.

I don't see why everyone sees Christians are retards that believe in creation. Catholics SPECIFICALLY say that the Bible is symbolic and support theories like evolution. I believe that something had to make the big bang, what whatever that is, is God, not the other way around. I don't know why, I don't think being gay is a sin, I don't know if Jesus fucking turned water into wine, but I do believe that something powerful had to have made the universe to begin with. Does that thing love us unconditionally? Maybe. Did it's incarnation die for our sins? Maybe. But I wouldn't completely rule out the idea of some power or force that began the universe THROUGH the big bang, and call people unintelligent for thinking that. It's not so much the belief in God, but HOW that belief is portrayed that makes theists get so much hate, I think.

I'm an agnostic too. Theism and atheism for a lot of people is more about belief as an emotion than knowledge. Not for fundamentalist Christians or ISIS or charismatic churches, but for the regular people who were raised theist, a lot of that has more to do with internal peace than how they make decisions. Theistic and atheistic religions usually don't come with systems of ethics beyond orienting your actions with your church and/or polity; they usually conform to whatever is locally popular.

Atheism isn't really about being strictly logical. It's more that some people actually derive comfort from a belief that there is no God or Creator. When it comes to questions that we have no answers to, the agnostics choose not to let the question distract them. For some people, these thoughts cause them so much stress that it makes more logical sense to create an answer so they can get along with their lives, than to dwell in the purist rationalism of vulgar agnosticism.
